This character from the Canterbury Tales is the Man of Law or the Sergeant at Law. He is a very successful lawyer who was commissioned by the king. He knows about all court cases and knows every statute of England's law by heart. He is very popular, very rich, and is a very important character in society. He wears a parti-colored coat with a silken belt. He passes judgement on a person to be proven innocent or guilty. He's a wise, wary and sharp gentleman who is very great at his job.

My American Dream
Not everyone can reach their American dream, and it’s becoming harder for many individuals to reach their dream nowadays. I don’t know if I will be able to achieve all of my goals and reach my American dream, but I must try or I will never actually be happy in life. My American dream is to become a successor in music, whether I’m a music producer, a musician or both. I would like to have great amount of money to buy at least a decent house around the Bay Area so I can be close to my family. I hope I can meet a beautiful and amazing woman so I can marry her and have about three or four children. This is my American dream, but at times like these, it might be more difficult to achieve it.
The economy is going down the drain and people like me may be in deep trouble of achieving our goals or American dream. Hopefully I can get a decent job when I’m older or when I’m in college, but unfortunately it’s becoming more and more difficult for younger citizens to apply for any. According to the interesting article, “Generation Screwed,” it states, “The unemployment rate for people between 18 and 29 is 12 percent in the U.S., nearly 50 percent above the national average.” How are we supposed to grow up if we can’t find a job to support ourselves and our families? I would like to apply for a job in the summer, but after reading this article, I don’t think I’ll be bringing any money home.
Another factor that may impact my American dream is technology. Our generation has been heavily exposed to new technological advances like touch screen devices, wireless internet, instant messaging, texting, and other devices. Many people in the world, like me, have a cell phone, an iPod, a computer to access the internet, and other forms of technology that we use every day. Luckily, I have unlimited texting so I don’t get charged too much on the monthly bills, but others aren’t so lucky. As it states in the article, “Is the Onslaught Making Us Crazy?” it says, “The average teen processes an astounding 3,700 texts a month.” Imagine, in a couple of years, the number could double. This is just one of the addictions that my generation is addicted to. When I get older, the prices of new technologies will increase and it will be a lot harder to pay for them if I don’t acquire a well-paying job.
My American dream will become harder and harder to reach as the years go by. Many people will have to work harder for it and possibly change it or modify it. I plan on becoming a successful musician or producer. If I can’t be a producer, then I’ll become a musician because all you need to be one is a creative mind to compose music and lyrics. But that doesn’t mean I’ll easily reach my American dream. Life isn’t a walk in the park; you have to run to get stronger.
